Population Almanac

Population Almanac is demographic information about the service area of a healthcare provider.  Healthcare providers usually operate in a defined geographic area.  Many healthcare services are based on the age and sex of the patient/person.  This almanac provides complete detailed information on the age, sex, household status and education level for the last thirty years.  This information is available by state, county, MSA, city/place, zip code/ZTAC and census tract.  This information is obtained from the Census Bureau in the STF-1 and STF-3 files. The US Postal Service provides postal delivery statistics that shows all households and businesses by postal delivery route in a zip code.  The Census Bureau publishes the American Community Survey to provide statistically accurate information for current demographic changes.  The Census Bureau provides the Population Survey each year that shows the new population counts and new demographic information.  The Commerce Department releases healthcare industry level information each year by releasing county level information on healthcare revenue, investment and employment.  Other sources of information include the building permit data that shows all new residential construction by permitting authority.

The product design is complete and software development will begin April 13, 2009.

Decennial Census

The Census Bureau does a national census every 10 years.  The main purpose of the census is congressional reapportionment.  The census is conducted by census takers that identify households and verify the number of persons in each household.  The census is done by mail and all addresses are verified.  This census relies on the accuracy of the person responding by mail.  This information is gathered by age, race and sex by address.  This information becomes the STF-1 file.  The information is very detailed and also very accurate.

During the census, census takers also gather detailed information from 1 in 6 households that focus on detail race origin, employment, educations and type of household.  This information is obtained by mail and census takers verify the accuracy of the data.  This information becomes the STF-3 and STF-4 files.  This information probably has errors but the 1 in 6 sample size provides a high level of accuracy.  Population Almanac uses these files for household and education information.  This information is being replaced by the American Community Survey for the 2010 census.

The Census Bureau has a term called 'geographies'.  This is any land or water area with political boundries.  Population Almanac has the geographies for state, county, MSA, city/place, zip code/ZTAC and census tract.  Population Almanac can produce population information at any level of geography.  For further information in this area, please contact us directly.

Sample reports are available to show the Population Reference Report, Population Custom Report, Population Comparison Report and Population Group Report.  These reports can be previewed, printed or exported to a PDF, DOC or Excel format.

American Community Survey

Many people want population information that is timelier than each 10 years.  The Census Bureau developed a program called the American Community Survey to report statistically accurate information about geographies.  In a ten year period, the American Community Survey will cover the entire United States.  We have obtained and analyzed the data.

Population Survey

For over 15 years, the Census Bureau has published the Population Survey.  The survey is an accurate population count at the state, county and city/place geographies.  The survey also has statistically accurate surveys for health insurance, home computers or daycare requirements.  These questions change each year and some questions are healthcare related.  The healthcare questions maybe reported in Population Almanac.

USPS Delivery Statistics / Building Permits

In the United States, there are 3,143 counties.  The population growth is occurring in about 200 counties.  The use of the US Postal Service delivery statistics show detailed information on the growth of new households.  The delivery statistics show the residential and business locations by postal delivery route within a zip code assigned to a post office.

To further develop the delivery information, building permit data is available by government permitting authority.  Permitting authorities are counties and city/places within a county.  The building permit information has the number of residential properties and the estimated construction value.  The national building permit information is usually reported on national news programs.
